At the commissioning of the Machining Manufacturing Industrial Skilling Centre in the Kampala Industrial Business Park Namanve H.E President Yoweri Museveni lauded Prof. Kwesiga the Executive Director Uganda Industrial Research Institute for implementing both Plan A and B after he secured the support of the People’s Republic of China.

According to the President Plan A was about establishing a value addition incubator where Uganda’s agriculture produce would be converted to commercial products, that would increase the farmers income. Plan B was about completing a technology development centre where spare parts and machinery for industry would be made.

Plan A was successfully effected by Prof. Charles Kwesiga. He led the drive for the restructuring of the Uganda Industrial Research Institute restoring it to a productive learning and incubation hub in Uganda. Plan B remained dormant till Prof. Kwesiga presented the concept for the establishment of the Machining Manufacturing Industrial Skilling Centre.

The concept Prof. Kwesiga presented resonated with the original idea of having a technology development centre and government came in to reignite the support the People’s Republic of China had pledged to give towards establishing it.

In January 2017 the project commenced with a ground breaking ceremony at the Kampala Industrial Business Park. In January 2020 the project was completed on record time, with all infrastructure and machinery put in place.
