UIRI COMMENDED AT THE COMMISSIONING OF THE TOORO KINGDOM YOUTH TEXTILE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND PRODCUTION CENTRE
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba’Iguru Rukidi IV while commissioning the Tooro Youth Textile Skills Development and Production Centre commended the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) for equipping the Centre with skills, technology and technical insights. He thanked Prof. Charles Kwesiga the Executive Director (UIRI) and the entire Institute for the progress made so far since signing a memorandum of understanding with the Institute in August 2020.
The King mentioned the training of youth from his Kingdom in textile; that had occurred at the Uganda Industrial Research Institute following his visit and signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Institute. He pointed out that it was his goal to tackle poverty, youth unemployment by unlocking the immense potential of the youth and agriculture to improve livelihoods. His goal was to have every youth trained and skilled in Tooro.
He wanted the youth to get jobs or be able to establish their own enterprises and improve their livelihoods. This he envisaged would be possible by establishing training centres across the Kingdom with support from the Uganda Industrial Research Institute.
